Kansas City: Out with the Old; In with Nothing Great

The pace around the league has really been picking up lately, and the interest in football is on a rise. This will definitely be an interesting year as some teams have attacked Free Agency with a vengence.

The latest news and notes from around the league involves some of the bigger named players bouncing to a new team. The Kansas City Chiefs are the focus of this article; they've made some interesting moves during the off-season... but they appear to be going nowhere quickly.

WR Brett Perriman left Detroit as expected. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, but his value is still a major question. Newly signed QB Elvis Grbac still has alot to prove and it is anticipated that he could be a huge flop this season. The Chiefs are also rumored to be close to signing WR Andre Rison. If Rison ends up in Kansas City; he would be starting opposite of Perriman. Both are talented WR's, but it all comes down to whether or not Grbac will have the ability to get them the ball.

At the Running Back Position, the Chiefs are still going to keep RB Marcus Allen around for another season. This isn't a good move mostly because they will be using him only in goal line situations; thus, RB Greg Hill's value will drop quite a bit when he is pulled in the Red Zone. Hill has all of the talent necessary to prosper in the league, but Allen will still be the huge shadow covering him once again this year.

On the Defensive side of the ball, Kansas City has been crazy in the off-season. Exit two of their best coverage players in Mark Collins and Brian Washington; enter CB Kevin Ross. Sure, Ross WAS good, but many years ago. The Chiefs plan on moving all-star LB Derrick Thomas to the Defensive End position after allowing DE Neil Smith to take off into Free Agency (he ended up with the Denver Broncos). In an attempt to add youth to the Defense, the Chiefs have only succeeded in making what could be a very disappointing defensive squad.

All and all, this team appears to be one to stay away from for fantasy football this year, they are in sad shape all over the place. Draft these players as only back-ups this year or you'll be greatly disappointed in your results!
