Chicago Bulls Win Fifth Title in Seven Years
The Bulls downed the Jazz 90-86 in game six of the NBA Finals, winning their fifth title in seven years. The Bulls, behind almost the whole game, came back to win it with a furious effort in the fourth quarter. Michael Jordan led the way with 39pts, and earned his fifth Finals MVP award.
The series became interesting when Utah battled back to tie it at 2-2 after falling behind 2-0. The turning point came in game five, when a flu ridden Michael Jordan scored 38pts and led the Bulls to a win in Utah. Facing the unenviable task of winning two straight in Chicago to win the series, the Jazz put up an admirable effort, but failed to win game six or any of the other games played in Chicago.
Chicago has earned the title "Dynasty," and have dominated the NBA throughout the 90's. The driving force behind this team is of course, Jordan. As if his legend wasn't large enough, he definitely added a new chapter with his performance in the Finals. In game one, he hit the game winning shot with no time left. In game two, he dominated, scoring 37pts in a Chicago blowout. After average showings in games three and four, he overcame a vicious flu that left him sick to his stomach to score 38pts, including the game winning three pointer. He admitted afterward that he had been close to fainting throughout the second half. He then went for 39 in game six, carrying the Bulls until the end of fourth quarter, when he passed the game winning assist to Steve Kerr.
