Cancellation Procedure for Home Insurance
Policy holders can cancel their home insurance plan at anytime. To cancel a home insurance plan, the policy holder must give the insurance company an advanced notice concerning the cancellation of the home insurance plan.
The home insurance plan can be cancelled if the policy holder did not make payment on time. The insurance company will gives you an advanced notice to make payment 10 days before cancellation. If you did not respond and pay the premium in 60 days, the insurer will stop providing coverage for you. The company will usually inform the policy buyer that his insurance plan will be cancelled 1 month before the cancellation take place. The company will cancel the policy if it finds out that policy buyer make false representation of the fact. Another reason that the company has the right to cancel the home insurance policy is that there is a substantial change in the risk since the policy is first issued.
Sometimes, an insurer will refuse to renewal the insurance policy for certain reason. If the insurer doesn’t want to renew the policy, you will be informed about it at least 1 month before the renewal date. The calculation of the refunds for the paid premium is based on pro rata. Based on prorate, your premium will be refunded in full without any penalty incurred if the cancellation happens within the policy period.
If you want to avoid your plan getting cancelled, you should make payment for the premium on time. The property should be maintained in good condition through regular repair. The home should also be free from trash. Faulty wiring should be repaired. In addition, the roof, and siding should be replaced and painted so that they will have a fresh look.
